Flexible computing universe
The technological strides made in the last decade across computer science and its related fields have unlocked a myriad of possibilities that transcend the centralized and oligopolistic technology infrastructures which currently dominate the economic landscape. These advancements present a plethora of opportunities for radical innovations in managing global computing resources to the advantage of all. What's imperative now is a computational and economic environment that facilitates free and swift experimentation with, exploration of, and interconnection among various innovative potentials by a diverse array of human and AI participants.
SAGA offers such an environment, crafting a global, scalable, decentralized computing framework that nurtures a community of pragmatic pioneers within a multi-marketplace ecosystem. It accomplishes this by:
Eliminating the barriers that hinder the interoperability of fundamental computational components owned by the public and various economic entities;
Facilitating the integration of human and machine intelligence for the design, implementation, and execution of components and their combinations within the global computational framework;
Decoupling computational processes from their physical computing infrastructures and locations, thereby enabling the fluidity and mobility of computational workflows across multi/hybrid-clouds and various proprietary resources;
Developing ontology, semantics, and APIs to equip computational processes with reflection, location, and context awareness, enabling intelligent workflow creation, learning, and meta-learning with minimal human oversight;
Establishing a framework for the fair and secure exchange of data value generated by each computational process, mobile device, resource, and its owner within the ecosystem, where value negotiations occur in local exchanges devoid of central authority or control.
SAGA's data exchange and computing framework will integrate distributed computing technologies into a decentralized and scalable network, empowering anyone to share, monetize, and utilize the value of their owned memory, computing capacities, algorithms, code, data, human creativity, and machine intelligence.
The aspiration here is both broad and profound: SAGA aims to elevate intelligence and the overall efficiency of our computational universes to new heights. On a more practical note: individuals can earn tokens and money by simply installing a SAGA app on their phone; businesses will achieve various computing processes at lower costs compared to alternative solutions; and certain data/computing combinations, currently unfeasible or monopolized by tech giants, will become widely accessible (e.g., large-scale analytics of data gathered through individual smartphones).
SAGA will empower computational agents to:
Exchange information about capabilities and actions;
Assign value to their capabilities and actions in chosen currencies or cryptographic tokens;
Facilitate value exchange in any chosen form, creating ad-hoc value networks of high complexity;
Generate additional value (be it local, global, economic, or social) through individual or collective actions within the network;
Learn about the actions, performance, and capabilities of other agents or value-creating networks;
Encapsulate any computational process, AI, or ML engine and interact with humans to leverage human intelligence.
SAGA will create social and economic value by:
Sourcing affordable computing power for executing community-oriented applications or research, and enabling owners of latent compute resources to earn additional income or donate their resources for beneficial use.
Organizing global compute processes involving multiple computing steps, data sources, and their novel combinations, which traditional commercial cloud computing services do not offer.
The fully operational SAGA framework will deliver value to businesses by intelligently and automatically organizing computations with minimal or no human intervention. Initially, consumers will input clearly defined business processes for execution on the platform. Over time, they will provide high-level declarative descriptions of their needs, which will be 'compiled' into a network of computing processes, AI agents, and data sources, optimized based on the actual distribution of data and computing power. The network will further re-optimize computing processes automatically as new data sources and more efficient or capable algorithms are introduced.
By breaking down the barriers of data silos, concentrated computing power hubs, and centralized software and code utilization, SAGA is poised to play a pivotal role in transitioning global computing from oligopolistic and monopolistic structures to an open collaboration and resource-sharing model without compromising security and privacy. This model ensures that the network effects of disruptive technological developments are equitably shared among all system constituents, rather than being exclusively available to the wealthiest companies.
